2017 “IT is for Girls” Summer Camp

NOTE: There are several camps being held at UNCG during the same week. So please follow the directions below to get to IT is for Girls Camp.

From Aycock Street, turn into Spring Garden towards Campus. Make a left turn on Stirling Street (across from Yum-Yum). Drive all the way towards the intersection of Stirling and Theta Street. You will see a sign for IT is for Girls Camp. (you will see a sign on Stirling street first for Mad science camp before that near Education building. DO NOT drop-off your student(s) there, keep driving to see the 2nd sign). The same location will be used for drop-off and pick-up on all days.

Monday
a. Drop-off/check-in is between 8.15 to 8.40 am (The program will begin at 8.45 am.)
8.45 am to 9.15 am is opening session and orientation. Parents are welcome to join for this session. For parking and directions visit http://wiit.uncg.edu/it-is-for-girls/parking-and-directions/
b. Pickup time is between 4.45 and 5 pm.
Tuesday to Thursday
a. Drop-off/check-in is between 8.30 to 8.55 am (The program will begin at 9.00 am.)
b. Pickup time is between 4.30 and 5 pm.
Friday,
a. Drop-off/check-in is between 8.30 to 8.55 am (The program will begin at 9.00 am.)
Parents are welcome to join their students any time from lunch to end of day based on their convenience.
12.15 pm to 1.15 pm – Lunch in UNCG Dining Hall (Parents and other guests must pay for their lunch only students eat free; cost $8.81 for adults; $4.50 for kids 10 and under; kids under 3 free)
1.30 pm to about 2.45 pm is project presentations to be judged for awards (in two different rooms and details will be sent later)
2.45 pm to 4 pm is presentation of finalists, awards and conclusion.
b. Pick-up at 4 pm or end of awards ceremony to 5 pm.

On Monday and Tuesday students will be introduced to different hands-on activities such as Animation, Internet of Things (IoTs), Web design, Firm Festival (creating/editing videos), Lego Robotics and game development. Each session will be for about 75 to 90 minutes.

From Wednesday onwards each student will be assigned to one of the activities above (they will be asked to provide their top 3 preferences) and will be given a project to complete by Friday noon. They will work in small teams to complete the project. Each team will present their project Friday afternoon. Judges will evaluate projects for awards.
